Brian Preston, President, Lead Consultant at TruStar Safety

Brian PrestonCHSC, GSC, NCSO

President, Lead Consultant

Brian Preston is a seasoned Occupational Health and Safety professional with over 20 years of experience supporting complex industrial, construction, and oil and gas operations across Canada. As Co-Owner and Lead Consultant of TruStar Safety, Brian specializes in practical, results-driven safety solutions that help organizations achieve compliance, improve performance, and build strong safety cultures.

Throughout his career he has held senior HSE leadership roles on major projects, including LNG developments and large-scale industrial construction, supporting field operations, leading safety programs, and working closely with supervisors, contractors, and frontline workers to manage risk and ensure safe, efficient execution.

Brian has extensive expertise developing and implementing COR-compliant safety programs, conducting audits, and leading incident investigations using root cause methodologies including TapRooT. As a certified peer auditor through the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), he has guided numerous companies through the COR certification process.

His industry background spans oil and gas (refining, oil sands, and LNG), industrial and residential construction, renewables, pulp and paper, cement plants, and manufacturing. He is a certified National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC), a former Emergency Medical Responder, and holds a Certificate in Environmental and Occupational Health from the University of Victoria and a Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety from the University of New Brunswick.

Amanda Valin is a dedicated and results-driven Occupational Health and Safety consultant with a strong passion for building effective safety cultures from the ground up. As a certified National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and former Emergency Medical Responder, she brings a solid foundation of practical, hands-on safety expertise.

Amanda has worked with major oil and gas organizations, including Shell, where she gained valuable experience navigating complex industrial safety requirements. She has a proven track record as a safety manager, successfully guiding companies through the COR certification process and developing comprehensive, customized safety programs tailored to their operations.

In addition to her experience in construction and oil and gas, Amanda has supported industrial work camps and the food services sector, bringing a well-rounded perspective to safety across multiple industries.

Beyond our core leadership team, TruStar Safety maintains a network of experienced HSE professionals who can be deployed for on-site support anywhere in Canada. From audits and inspections to field-level safety oversight, we provide boots-on-the-ground expertise when and where you need it most.
